Biden announces that he will send vaccines to Brazil and other countries

The President of the United States, Joe Biden, will send vaccines to Brazil and several other countries to help fight Covid-19. The announcement was made this Thursday (3).

The US government's plan is to share at least 80 million doses with the rest of the world by the end of June, but in this first phase it will deliver 25 million doses.

And the immunizing agents donated are Moderna, Pfizer and Johnson & Johnson and AstraZeneca. Doses will be shipped in the next two months.

President Biden said the US will work with the WHO Covax consortium and other partners to distribute doses equally across the world.

See how the distribution will be:

6 million doses go to Latin America and the Caribbean (Brazil, Argentina, Colombia, Costa Rica, Peru, Ecuador, Paraguay, Bolivia, Guatemala, El Salvador, Honduras, Panama, Haiti, Dominican Republic and other Caribbean Community countries );

7 million for South and Southeast Asia (India, Nepal, Bangladesh, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Afghanistan, Maldives, Malaysia, Philippines, Vietnam, Indonesia, Thailand, Laos, Papua New Guinea, Taiwan and Pacific Islands);

And about 5 million for Africa, distributed among ed countries in coordination with the African Union.

So far, the US has shipped doses of AstraZeneca to Canada and Mexico. This immunizing agent has not yet been approved by the country's regulatory agency.

Reason for Donation

Joe Biden also said that, in the coming weeks, he will talk with other democracies to step up efforts to mitigate the pandemic and that he hopes to announce progress until the G7 summit in June, which will take place in the United Kingdom.

And he explained the reason for the donation:

“The US will never be completely safe until the pandemic is under global control. No ocean is wide enough, no wall is high enough to keep us safe,” he declared.

"Illness and death out of control in other countries can destabilize them and put us at risk too."
